Extraordinary Meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers: Ending the Occupation in Palestine

Algeria said that peace can not be achieved in Palestine in the absence of a "firm and courageous" position of the international community, including the Security Council, which can revive the process of a political settlement to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories and allow the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with El-Quds as its capital.

Algeria said Sunday that peace can not be achieved in Palestine in the absence of a "firm and courageous" position of the international community, including the Security Council, which can revive the process of a political settlement to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories and allow the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with El-Quds as its capital.

In an address to the extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held by video conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum, reiterated the "strong condemnation by Algeria of the barbaric acts committed by the occupation forces against the Palestinian people," reaffirming its "unwavering principled position in support of the just Palestinian cause and the Palestinian brothers in this difficult situation.

Mr. Boukadoum called on the international community, including the Security Council, to "assume its historical, legal and moral responsibilities in the protection of the Palestinian people," stressing the need "to work without delay to stop the machine that sows death and destruction, to face the barbaric attacks on the lives and property of this brotherly people and ensure compliance with the rules of international law.

Noting that this extraordinary meeting "comes on the day after the anniversary of the Nakba and while the systematic criminal aggression against our Palestinian brothers continues in the occupied city of El-Quds, the West Bank and all the occupied territories, with the intensification of the barbaric strikes on the Ghaza Strip, causing a significant number of martyrs and injuries, including children and women, not to mention the massive destruction of infrastructure," the Foreign Minister hoped that this meeting "will mobilize the resources and capabilities of the Organization in the service of the Palestinian cause.

"These despicable aggressions in flagrant violation of all international laws and charters of human rights and international humanitarian law once again test the credibility of the multipolar world order," said Boukadoum, adding that "because of the immunity it enjoys, the occupation persists in its despicable crimes and racist policies, which removes the prospects for a just and comprehensive solution and complicates the situation in the entire region as evidenced by the current events.

"The Palestinian question has always been our central cause", he stressed, adding that at a time when "all eyes are turned to the priorities of the current situation, namely the cessation of barbaric aggression and the urgent management of the catastrophic humanitarian crisis resulting from it, we must not lose sight or pretend to forget the real causes at the origin of the conflict.

"The occupation of the Palestinian territories and the attempts to impose the law of the strongest and the policy of fait accompli to the detriment of the Palestinian people: these are the main causes of the suffering of the Palestinian people for over seven decades," said the head of Algerian diplomacy. "We remain firmly convinced that peace cannot be achieved in the absence of a firm and courageous position on the part of the international community, including the Security Council, for the revival of the political settlement process, which can put an end to the occupation of the Palestinian territories and allow the Palestinian people to achieve their inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with El-Quds as its capital.
