The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune stressed Sunday in Algiers on the need to pursue "rigorously" the fight against corruption and abuse of office.

Speaking at the opening of the Government-Walis meeting, Mr. Tebboune said "we must rigorously pursue the fight against corruption and abuse of office," considering that citizens still suffer from what he called "petty corruption.

Affirming that "the citizen is entitled to benefit from the services of the administration and to ask for the documents he needs, without any compensation being demanded in return", the President of the Republic recalled, in this respect, the existence of "unacceptable" practices exercised by the administration against the citizen, which is more serious than corruption, he argued.

"The abuse of office for the purpose of getting rich remains illegal (Haram), hence the need to fight against this phenomenon because no one has the right to demand compensation from the citizen in return for a service," added Mr. Tebboune, calling on the officials concerned to honor their commitments to the citizen who "knows perfectly well how to distinguish the real person in charge, from the one who wants to save time".
