The Director General of Prevention at the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Djamel Fourar, stressed Wednesday in Algiers the need to identify all the people who were on the same flight that transported the Italian national infected with the Coronavirus to Algeria.

At a press conference at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Fourar said that a "significant number" of people who were on board the flight Milan-Rome-Algiers "have already manifested themselves in the various hospital structures of the country and were taken to undergo tests for this purpose," noting, however, that "the problem today is to manage to identify all those who traveled with the Italian national".

He recalled that the latter entered Algiers on 17 February and travelled the following day (18 February) to Hassi-Messaoud, Ouargla.

The Ministry of Health had announced Tuesday evening that one case was confirmed positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) among the two suspected cases of Italian nationality, aged 55 and 61 years respectively, treated "in accordance with national guidelines".

Aware of the risk, the Ministry of Health assures to have "strengthened the prevention system around the confirmed case, and the surveillance and monitoring system at all points of entry".
