The national airline company Air Algerie announced Thursday the suspension of its flights to the holy places of Islam due to the coronavirus

This "preventive provision" comes in response to the recommendations of the Saudi authorities who decided to "temporarily suspend entry into the kingdom to carry out Umrah", in order "to prevent the arrival of the new corona virus in the kingdom and its spread".

The resumption of Air Algerie's flights to the holy places of Islam remains dependent on the decision of the Saudis to reopen their territories for pilgrims, the company's spokesman, Amine Andaloussi declared to official media.

However, a repatriation plan for Algerian pilgrims will be provided by the national company in order to preserve their health, according to Mr. Andaloussi.

Two empty flights have already taken off this Thursday, from Oran and Constantine, to allow the evacuation of Algerians on the spot.
